So hardware was ascertained to be good. Is it custom kernel? Can you do:
ls -l /proc/asound
If something shows up, install the pulseaudio stuff.
If nothing shows up here, it's most likely a module issue. which require you to install a different kernel.


alsa, debian, pulseaudio
