audio not always working with new version KDE
 

Since installing a new version of KDE (3.4.2 level B), audio doesn't always work.
mp3's always work.
If i use kaffiene to play an mpg file, it works.
but just about nothing else does.
Where do I start to look?

I noticed that some of my settings were changed. I would find the Control Center and look around in the Sound section. I still have one that I have to change everytime I log in. It won't save it to default even though I told it too.

I did change mine form auto detect to ALSA. That seemed to help a whole lot. Don't forget to hit apply and you may have to logout and back in to make them reset. I usually hit ctrl alt bksp just for good measure. Beats rebooting though.

Another glitch I guess. It happens.
