Audio Editing

I'm looking to begin editing audio files. Do any of you have any suggestions about what software to use, in terms of converting MP3s to WAV format, and editing the files? Thanks in advance.

Here is a Linux how-to that has links to several sites to download what you need.

Sweep is a good tool for editing, and will do mp3.

Audacity and Rezound, both handle virtually every format known. Audacity is easier, but seems a little flakier on Suse, Rezound doesn't look as clean, but rock solid.
