audacity record problems, removed pulseaudio more problems
Hi folks,
I am using lucid beta2, I know, only 11 days to go. I was trying to use Audacity, to record some radio stuff I am doing, but I couldn't. So I came up with the idea of removing pluseaudio and using alsa.
which has worked before, can't recall if it was Karmic or Jaunty.
I have sound, but still can't record with audiacity also System
pops up a dialog box, with "Waiting for sound system to respond"
What have I done wrong? And how do I fix it? I don't mind pulse, the main objective is audacity recording the mix, or capture.
I have one of these
root@tux:~# cat /proc/asound/card0/pcm0c/info
card: 0
device: 0
subdevice: 0
stream: CAPTURE
id: Intel ICH
name: NVidia nForce2
subname: subdevice #0
class: 0
subclass: 0
subdevices_count: 1
subdevices_avail: 1
root@tux:~#
I had to screw around with alsamixer and soundcard configuration to get audacity to record radio on my pc, so the following is for capture (you might need line in enabled in the soundcard if you want to record with a mic.)
I can tell you what I did, but it may not work in your case.
go into 'alsamixer', set the card to 'capture', Analog S = phone, Digital = IEC958o, Master/Phone/Iec958f/Analog* all turned up.
disable every other device/setting.
then I go into audacity preferences and set PLAYACK&RECORD to: ALSA:default.
it may or may not work with your soundcard, in which case your going to need to spend some time fiddling with options untill you get it right

yes that looks like an alsamixer gui, I usually just start a terminal, then as root type 'alsamixer' and use the basic version, but that looks to have the same functionality. you should keep that open while determine what works.

well audacity, isn't even moving when I press record. Think pulseaudio has to go back on
