Audacity: record from sound card? Pulse audio

I am trying to record from the sound card with audacity. I can't get this to work. I have a number of choices for output device and quite a few for input. The input is set to sysdefault and output to default. I think Crunchbang is using pulse audio and I am not familiar with this. Does anyone know how to set up the audio? It works fine when I listen to audio.

I would like to record from the sound card with Audacity. I tried a number of choices for input and output, but can't get it to work. Can someone help to figure this out? I am using Crunchbang Waldorf and it uses pulse audio. I also tried using arecord, but it wouldn't work either.

Thanks

Have you verified your mixer settings to make sure they're not set to zero. In particular check out the mic and capture settings

yes, crunchbang uses pulseaudio.

is audacity set up to use pulseaudio?

what do you want to record from the soundcard? the mic? that should work. some audio playback from your computer? that might not work. it might work with jack audio.

have you asked this on the crunchbang forums?

I was trying to record from the sound card.

I got an answer from Crunchbang Forums. I wasn't familiar with pulse audio. I had to change some of the settings on pavucontrol which is the volume control/mixer. I changed the setting in Recording to 'Monitor of Built-in Audio Analog Stereo'and Cofiguration to 'Analog Stereo Duplex'

Thanks
