checking for pkg-config... /usr/bin/pkg-config
checking for GLIB - version >= 2.5.7... no
*** Could not run GLIB test program, checking why...
*** The test program failed to compile or link. See the file config.log for the
*** exact error that occured. This usually means GLIB is incorrectly installed.
configure: error:
*** GLIB 2.5.7 or better is required. The latest version of
*** GLIB is always available from ftp://ftp.gtk.org/. If GLIB is installed
*** but not in the same location as pkg-config add the location of the file

Thank you ,
RHEL 4 linux and can you suggest me the following ,
i was trying to install glib-2.15.1 , i got the following error
Error : PACKAGE REQUIREMENTS ( glib-2.0.>=2.17.6 atk >=1.13.0 pango >=1.20 cairo >=1.6 )
were not met :
requested 'glib-2.0>=2.17.6' but version of glib is 2.4.7
consider adjusting the PKG_CONFIG_PATH environment variable if you installed software in a nonstandard prefix
alternatively , you may set the environment variables BASE_DEPENDENCES_CFLAGS and BASE_DEPENDENCIES_LIBS to avoid the need to call pkg-config.
see the pkg-config man page for more details.
As mentioned in the error i have tried to set environmental variables, still i am getting the same error.

Thank you for your help,

1) Why do you want a different glib 2 / atk / pango in RH EL 4 ??

2) Installing a different " gtk+ / glib2 " in e.g. /usr/local/
or any other location in your path will crash your system :
> 200 other applications depends on the 'gtk+ / glib2' already
installed.

3) Which application will need these new libraries ?
There often is a solution, using the system libraries.
