ati xorg ut2004 mplayer

ok, i have searched this form and google for solutions to these problems, and all i get is a buch of threads of people saying "me too". anyways, here is my problems... first i have changed from a geforce to an ATI video card, but before everything worked properly... i think they are related... first, with ut2004 i get this error

Xlib: extension "XiG-SUNDRY-NONSTANDARD" missing on display ":0.0".
Signal: SIGTRAP [trap]

and when i try to play avi's with mplayer, i get this

VDec: vo config request - 640 x 480 (preferred csp: Planar YV12)
VDec: using Planar YV12 as output csp (no 0)
Movie-Aspect is 1.33:1 - prescaling to correct movie aspect.
VO: [xv] 640x480 => 640x480 Planar YV12
[ws] Error in display. 0.226 ct: -0.043 1/ 1 0% 0% 0.0% 0 0 99%
[ws] Error code: 11 ( BadAlloc (insufficient resources for operation) )
[ws] Request code: 140
[ws] Minor code: 19
[ws] Modules: flip_page

then mplayer freezes, and i need to pkill to get it to close...

if i change the video out to gl (open gl) instead of the default, i think it was xv (x11/xv) it works fine....
