ATI. MDK 10. Display larger than monitor.

I tried to install Mandrake 10.0 on a friend's machine. He has a Pentium 4 with 1gig DDR memory and an ATI Radeon 9800 video card. No matter what kernel or ATI driver I use, the desktop is twice the size of the monitor so that you have to pan with the mouse to see the whole desktop. Has anyone seen this behavior, and if so, how did you fix it?

Section "Screen"
Identifier "Default Screen"
Device "Generic Video Card"
Monitor "Generic Monitor"
DefaultDepth 24
SubSection "Display"
Depth 1
Modes "1024x768"
EndSubSection

the above section in your /etc/X11/XF86Config-4 may read
Virtual "1024x768"

change it to become similar to mine

Thanks, I knew it had something to do with the X config file. I tried changing screen resolutions and meta modes. I didn't think of looking for "virtual".

Have a good day.

Ted.

Copy the XF86config-4 file to XF86config-4.bak. Make changes to the appropriate lines. If it doesn't work you can just copy the backup file over the original file.

My ultimate solution was to install Suse. I have now swithced to Suse. It's really nice.
