very cool news

i don't own an ati card, but being a fan of the company's cards, this driver with its hopefully much better support for wine will perhaps allow me to go ahead and buy an ati card instead of an nvidia one (which i only use since it works with wine far better than ati)

very good move by ati

ati has a history of writing terrible drivers. i would wait before upgrading until braver individuals have tried it first.

i have definitely heard about that (and is not limited to the linux drivers either)

makes me wonder how these guys can make awesome cards but the hardware is limited by faulty drivers... nvidia remains the opengl master in many cases simply because the drivers can handle the hardware is better

i'm willing to take the risks though; the radeon 9600 pro/xt just looks too good and price isn't that bad (but then again, i could easily pitch in some extra money for a geforce fx 5900 which is about $200, flash it to 5950 if i want, and use the more-guaranteed-to-work linux nvidia drivers)
