Ati fglrx-driver hangs up the system
Hello
First of all I apologize if i put this thread to wrong category. I've spent 4 days trying to figure out what's wrong with my fglrx-driver. I installed the driver and kernel module with the instructions given on Flavio Stanchina's page . (Ati Linux driver packages for Debian.) Im running Debian with 2.6.8-1-686 pre-built kernel and I have Radeon 8500 Le - graphics adapter. I can make the kernel-module and install it with modprobe with no errors but here's what happens during startup: I get the GDM-login screen, but it's not in the resolution i wanted (I've tried 1600x1200, 1024x768). It's always flat and 800x600 (refresh rate is always 60 hz) plus all the fonts are tiny. I can login, but starting programs such as gkrellm or mozilla-firefox hangs up the system completely and I have to use the reset-button. Even Caps-Lock doesn't give the light. So it's totally jammed. The glxgears give about 2500 fps so I fiugred the 3d rendering is working though. Here is what dmesg gives: (don't understand it at all, so I put all of it) r=0x31 pin1=2 pin2=-1 Using local APIC timer interrupts. calibrating APIC timer ... .....
