ATI 3650 Problem

I'm using Slackware 12.2 on a Dell Dimension 8200 with 768 RAM, ATI 3650 AGP graphics card, 2.00 GHZ processor, and its display is a Samsung Syncmaster 920NW

I installed the ATI drivers for my Card and followed the rules exactly according to ATI's site.. I did the default install to Xorg and went to reboot, once I rebooted I got the regular stuff till I got past my boot manager, the text screen loads fine were its loading all the stats and drivers, but once I get into X (I use the KDE LOGIN screen)

I see at first a blinking "_" in the top left corner then,nothing.(once X goes to load and freezes?)

I managed to get around the problem of not seeing my screen and looked at my Xorg.conf file from windows, i'm not quite sure what to change though.

any tips would be nice.

Did you get your ATI driver from the ATI website? I would expect you to use the fglrx driver but you have two (2) drivers defined in your xorg.conf.

Maybe you should remove the first one and just keep the second. You might want to post the results of

sudo modprobe | grep fglrx

just to make sure the fglrx driver is installed correctly.

The other possibility is downgrading your libdrm. The newer libdrm doesn't work with fglrx...there are bug postings all over the place.

Great news, I found out how to fix the problem

Unfortunately. I didn't get to test your method since I messed up my inittab file so bad I couldn't login. but heres what I done after I reloaded.

I closed X and from there I entered "xorgsetup" and "xorgconfig"
after that I made sure that I had my GUI that I wanted properly selected by enterting "xwmconfig" I had some slight problems after I got in but I fixed those with "xvidtune".
