Athlon or 586 pachages?

This may be dumb quesstion of the day--I searched LQ & didn't find an answer.
What's the difference between athlon packages, or rpm's & ones titlled i586? When I installed Mdk 10, there was no option to choose a processor, (might've id'd automatically) & for some reason, from that time on I downloaded & installed 586 pkgs tho I have an Athlon processor. Am I right in assuming the obvious, that athlon packages are for Athlon processor? And since I have no trouble with what I've installed, is there an advantage to using Athlon rpm's? Dumb question I know, but some of my stupidest questions have prompted worthwhile results. Thanks!!

try out the athlon packages, they should work better with an athlon. i586 is i586 and above, which would include athlon, which is probably i686. so everything will work fine with i586 but try athlon and see what happens.
