Aterm - change default colors

I've gone through several threads on how to change aterm's default colors, but none of the solutions have helped:

I've read that the default settings should be put in ~/.Xdefaults
Also, I've read that if you start aterm from the terminal with options for colors, it always overrides the default settings in .Xdefaults.

Well I did exactly that, I ran aterm with options specified at the terminal. Now I want it to use the default settings in .Xdefaults

Can someone please tell me how to do so?

Thanks

so are you saying that when you simply run "aterm" without options, that it is now not
reading the settings in the .Xdefaults file ?

Yes, DrOzz, that's exactly what happens!

HOWEVER, to be honest, I don't quite know for sure if it used to read the settings earlier, since I haven't been using linux for too long..

I just assumed it doesn't read now because I ran aterm with the options from the terminal, since that's what other posts said.

thanks

so what do you want the outcome to be ?
do you wanna read from the .Xdefaults, or not ?
what are the colors you want ?

put something like this :
Quote:

aterm*cursorColor: yellow
and if the cursor color in the termainl changes to yellow then you will plainly see
that it is correctly reading the .Xdefaults file ..

Yes, I wanna read from .Xdefaults

But your solution does not work, DrOzz, it does not read. I get a black cursor.

thanks

are you using artwiz fonts? I've noticed the cursor stay black with that type of font for some reason.

I'm also a newbie to Linux, but I think you need to load ~/.Xdefaults when you start X. Try running "xrdb -load ~/.Xdefaults" Now open up a new aterm. If this fixed things then add that line to ~/.xsession so it will load every time you start X.

No, you don't need to do that.
