ata_id HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for '/dev/sda' : Invalid argument

Hello,
I recently compiled and installed the kernel 3.5.2 on OpenSUSE 12.1 and I now get this message on boot.

Code:

ata_id HDIO_GET_IDENTITY failed for '/dev/sda' : Invalid argument
The computer boots correclty anyway but I'd like to get rid of this warning.
My hard disk is a SATA connnected through a RAID controller.
Did I miss something when I configured my kernel ?

Thanks

Hi there,

I'm having the same problem as you did when I installed Ubuntu 11.10 on a Dell Precision T3600. The installation is completed but when I reboot and go into Ubuntu, this error appears.

May I know if you have found any solution on this?

Many thanks in advance.

KM

Hi !
No, I have not found out.
What kind of hardware are you using ? (SATA, SAS, RAID etc...)

Hi!

It's RAID. I kept trying with Ubuntu 11.10 but it failed, although I could enter the recovery mode. My colleague installed Kubuntu 12.04 and it works perfectly. So I change to that. It seems like newer version works with my system. I guess Ubuntu 12.04 should work as well but I didn't try out. I'm a newbie in Linux anyway so I still need some advices from the experts. Heh.

Oh ya, I converted both hard disc to Non-RAID before I did the installation.
