ASUS P4PE sound not working (again)

linuxquestions.org/questions/showthread.php?s=&threadid=50826

I have the above thread and .........

I am having problems getting my sound to work on same mobo with suse 8.2. I was going to alter the modules.conf file as suggested and then the /etc/rc.d/rc.modules file but i don't have one. I have the directory structure but not that particular file.

When configuring in yast2 i get

The kernel module snd-intel8x0 for sound supportcould not be loaded. This can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters

Which seems reasonable but I have no idea how to set them or what they should be (pref GUI as i am only 2 days into this)

Thanks in advance for your time :)

I have the same mobo and managed to get sound working under redhat 9. Its really quite simple.

Firstly in the bios turn of PNP OS support. That way the bios will assign IRQ etc to the sound and not leave it up to linux.

The second part which is even wierder and unfortunately I cant take credit for this as i read it somewhere on this forum posted by another user (i forget his name, so appologies to him) is swap the cable on the back of the pc for the sound port from the green port to the pink port. Voila instant sound!

hope this works for you
