Associating file types with mplayer

I want to associate MPEGs, AVIs, etc. with MPlayer so that they use MPlayer automatically when I double click them. I went into their properties and tried to point the files to MPlayer, but when I clicked browse I had no freaking clue where MPlayer is! Where is it?! Haha. Ok so if any of you know how to associate the file types with MPlayer I would appreciate your help a lot. Thanks.

Type "whereis mplayer" in a terminal window. This will give you the path to the executable (as well as paths to libraries and man pages). Then you can open the associations dialog (easy for KDE, less so for Gnome) and associate the specific extensions with the mplayer executable.

Good Luck
