need help in the way setup/install ftp client/server in colinux debian-3.0r0.ext3.1gb or gentoo-colinux-stage3-x86-2004.3 under windows XP.

I'm newie in linux, I've tried to use rpm and apt-get update to install the services. However, I can't get direct access to the internet under linux, but I can access to internet under windows.

I wonder how to build these service in sources file. I really lack of these info on hand. So, please kindly lead me way the steps on setup up these services or post me some useful links for reference.
