aRts: KDE won't play sounds

Hi, there.

I'm running KDE 3.3.2 with aRts 1.3.1, using ALSA. Sound works fine so far, when using BMP, Xine, XMMS or other players. I configured ALSA's .asoundrc to use the dmix plugin, so I can play sounds simultaneously.
But I ran into problems with aRts. Since I want some KDE system sounds (like when Emails come in), I must use aRts. But when starting it via the control panel, it takes a long long time until the system shows any reaction again, but sounds won't be played.
When starting from console, using `artsd -aalsa -l0 -r48000', it starts up at once. Ok, system sounds don't work either, but artsplay does.

So I'm quite confused now; I'm not dependend on any sound server, since dmix does a good job, but I'd like to hear some system sounds by KDE. Could anyone help me to make this possible? It doesnt matter to me whether I use aRts or not...

Thanks in advice,
Tech

I don't know if it solves anything but

try to check the file
file:/home/$USER/.kde/knotifyrc

It should look like this:

[Misc]
LastConfiguredApp=KDE-Systemnachrichten
//////// the line above depends on your localization of course

[StartProgress]
Arts Init=true
KNotify Init=true
Use Arts=true

sometimes, especially in fedora, this options aren't enabled.

I tried that a while ago, even deleted the file; but didn't help.
