arpwatch syntax and examples other than the man pages

I am trying to setup arpwatch on a RHEL box to prevent arp poisoning and am relatively new at this. I read the man pages but am not translating the syntax well. I want to be able to look at other subnets than the one I am sitting on and record all of their IP/MAC addresses and then have an alert sent to an ip address if any of those MAC addresses change but am having issues doing so.

Can any of the resident gurus assist?

How can ARP listen to other subnets? May be possible when it is a gateway router..is this your case..Without that I don't think your use case is valid. Correct me if I am wrong
