Ark now can't find rar/unrar after upgrade to Kubuntu 16.10
After I upgraded from Kubuntu 16.04 to 16.10, suddenly Ark can't unpack RAR files. When I open a RAR file, I get this message:
Ark was not able to open foo.rar. No suitable plugin found. Ark does not seem to support this file type. Is there some way I can set a path to unrar? I have rar, unrar, and unrar-free installed. |
go here download 64bit or 32 bit binary then move them to /usr/bin you're back in business make sure you pick Linux versions.
your versions, just copy or move them into /usr/bin ... |
I already have RAR installed, why would it matter? Also, there are no ready-made binaries, there's just source files, and it's for a Trial version.
I'll try it anyway, though, I guess, even though I don't really want the trial version. edit: Nevermind, I thought the package was source, there are binaries in it. However, copying the binaries into /usr/bin doesn't work. Ark still can't find RAR. |
I also tried completely removing Ark, and reinstalling. No dice, nothing's changed.
How exactly does Ark find RAR? I assume that's where the problem is... |

fresh copy rar and unrar Quote:
regardless of what your running for a DE see if you can get a rar ver 5 or lesser and see if it works. as it looks like ARK and rar are not in agreement at the moment. I'm using file-roller at the moment with rar / unrar 5.4 and it is not having any problems with rar files. |

I already tried switching out the RAR for newer files earlier... it didn't work either It looks like the newer Ark isn't playing nice with RAR for some reason. |

pls, mark solved if it is working now.. happy unrar'ing |

Yes, but the problem, I think, lies with Ark, and not RAR. But it doesn't matter, much as long as it's solved. *note: I'm suggesting that switching the versions of RAR around wouldn't work. I think somehow RAR functionality is broken in this latest release. |
