Are other distro's adding repositories so I can use yum for all my distro's?
 

Just like the thread title says... where are the othe repositories for like SuSE, Slackware, Red Hat, Debian, knoppix, Yoper, ubuntu?

I don't really want to use apt or up2date, unless someone can give me a good reason why I shouldn't use yum.

Yum is slow and bloated, I still use it, I prefer apt.

Debian, knoppix, Yoper, ubuntu=apt-get(I think Yoper is debian based)

well apt was written i think in 1998 as a front end to dpkg
which started in i think 1994 or so

debian is generally considered better than rpm based distributions because it is not driven or corrupted by commercialism or corporations

and in fact apt and dpkg were far superior to rpm which is why these apt and apt clones like yum are a part of rpm based distros today

apt was ported to conectiva in 2000 i think (apt4rpm and synaptic)

this to my knowledge was the first time the two package systems .deb and .rpm had been seen as even remotely the same by programmers so we have the dudes in Brasil to thank for that.
i even hooked up a Linux system to a conective .deb archive once and installed kde and it worked so apearently they were even using straight dpkg some.

sadly conectiva is gone swallowed by drakesoft i think

i personally think it was rather sad the trend more toward debian system stopped and yum native rpm apt clone became the thing thus recreating the .deb .rpm wall

dpkg with its strong policy driven directives is inherently better than rpm hands down and makes rpm seem quite dumb and rather microsoft like (which may be the point) again with the commercial interest corrupting the equation.

so the answer is no i don't guess debian and debian like distributions will ever corrupt themselves with the likes of something as questionable in value as rpm

and sadly rpm distros have chosen not to take the oportunity presented by apt2rpm to switch to dpkg
and create a universal package system

Yoper is not Debian based, it uses rpm with apt/synaptic as the package manager.
