Apt-get update stop option?

I have a problem with apt-get trying to upgrade a package that isn't present on my system anymore and it of course fails every time. How do I tell apt-get to forget about upgrading that package? Is there a file somewhere that holds your 'to do' list? I mostly use Synaptic, and I tried 'unmarking' it but that doesn't seem to do anything, because when I click apply it still tries and fails. Thanks.

You can install it again then remove it with:
Code:
apt-get remove --purge program
That should get rid of it completely.

I tried that, but it doesn't see to work as I can't install it gain. LOL Its sad to say that it is the data files for frozen-bubble. There was an upgrade for them from 1.0.0-4 to 1.0.0-6. I selected that about the same time as I told the main program, frozen-bubble, to remove completely (I forgot I selected the upgrade for frozen-bubble-data, or maybe I selected the upgrade after I selected remove, not really sure). So now, it gets stuck when I try to re-install it, and fails if I try to remove it.

Have you tried debfoster? Maybe that catches it and deletes it.

OK, just checked that out. Its not (from what I can tell) a dependancy problem, frozen-bubble-data isn't on my system anymore, which is why it can't upgrade it, but it is marked for upgrade. I need to know where that info is kept (a file somewhere I assume?) so I can remove it so it doesn't try to upgrade it. I tried to re-install frozen-bubble (which has frozen-bubble-data as a dep) but it fails because it wants to upgrade the frozen-bubble-data first.

OK, here's what worked for me incase someone else runs into a similar problem:

I had to use the --force-yes option to force it to download and install the package that was causeing me problems. Before I did that I manually removed all of the files I could find that had the name frozen-bubble-data in them. I can't imagine this is the way you are supposed to deal with a problem like this, but it is the only thing that worked for me. As a side note, when I used that, apt-get set up a bunch of other things on my system, and things showed up in my KDE start menu that have been gone for a long time (just from the menu, I could still start them manually) I wish I knew how those entries get into the KDE start menu, and why they disappear after a while.
