I don't know why i am getting this error now, as far as i know i haven't changed anything recently, or at least i don't "think" i did. Stranger things have happened though..

thanks in advance

Hmm...

What happens when you try to run "apt-get update"?

AlucardZero 10-28-2007 12:28 PM

what are your proxy settings?

deft 10-28-2007 02:11 PM

There is no proxy? I am a home user connecting directly to the internet using dsl wireless..

and all my internet and stuff works, it just appears to be apt and also my bit-torrent wont work either?

deft 10-28-2007 02:25 PM

indienick, Its the output I posted above :)

AlucardZero 10-28-2007 02:40 PM

What does echo $http_proxy give you?

Ugh - it's been a bad day.

deft 10-28-2007 05:46 PM

hehe, know what you mean mate ;)

DaRkBoDoM 10-28-2007 09:52 PM

does /etc/apt.conf exists?

If yes, please post its content

deft 10-29-2007 08:55 AM

Ok first up, sudo echo $http_proxy: http://localhost:4001

cat /etc/apt.conf
cat: /etc/apt.conf: No such file or directory

I guess that its not there :P

AlucardZero 10-29-2007 10:27 AM

Code:

unset http_proxy

Then, you'll have to get rid of this env. var every time your system starts up.

I suggest you to do a
Code:

grep -R http_proxy /etc/*
grep -R http_proxy /home/.*

to found where this env. var is defined and remove it.

Bye
