apt - failed dependancy: linux-kernel-headers
 

I downloaded the latest libc6 and libc6-dev (2.3.2.ds1-10) from debian.org and installed them using dpkg. But libc6-dev says it depends on linux-kernel-headers. I have kernel-headers for my kernel (2.4.18-686), but the package does not provide linux-kernel-headers, and the only
linux-kernel-headers package on debian.org is version 2.5.999-test7-bk-9. I certainly do not want this installed on my "stable" system.

After forcing the dependancies, gcc will compile software with no trouble, but if I try to install new stuff with dselect or apt-get, it wants to remove libc6-dev. I see this as being a vital package that should not have this sort of problem. What's going wrong?
