apt's sources.list

hi,
i have been having troubles with /etc/apt/sources.list - i can't seem to remember how to set it up.

i am currently running woody, but would like to upgrade to sid. i live in australia, so i suppose i would be looking at using australian mirrors.

basically, as much as i hate to admit it, i think i need someone to spell it out to me. heh, i used to have a whole bunch of notes on paper, but i have moved house a couple of times since then, and, not too suprisingly, they have disappeared

just for the record:
i have tried searching linux-questions regarding this matter. haven't really had any luck there.
have tried searching the linux flavour of google. had a little luck, but alas it was not quite specific enough for my noobish self.

any assistance would be greatly appreciated

hey man. how are ya?
i'm not on linux atm ...
have you read the debian apt how-to?

http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/ap...ml#s-netselect

find out the best mirror for you using that link.

then what you have to do is point to the right repository (sid, in ur case).
so, in ur sources.list file, wherever you see 'stable', make it 'unstable'.
save it...
then run 'apt-get clean', 'apt-get update' (which will now be updating from unstable), and then 'apt-get dist-upgrade'.

hth ...
