Apps requiring root privilages do not load when connected remotely
 

I have the latest FC5 installed, with a Xvnc server set up in such a way that when i connect I get the FC login screen. Now my problem is if I login this way, and then attempt to run a program from the system menu (like Logical Volume Mgmt, for example), it does prompt me for the root password, and after I type it, nothing appears. In GNOME, I do see the root authorization icon in the corner.

However, if I SSH in and start the vncserver manually (or have it set up to automatically start under a particular user with chkconfig) then I don't have this problem.

My guess is that it has something to do with root being denied remote login access, but I have no idea. So what can I do to fix this?

in fact, root DOEST get denied from remote in default. i can only suggest to keep this.

but if you really want to change it, you know where to look. i don't know exactly where or how you change it but it can be done.

yes, normally i would agree, except that the boxes are mainly for internal and training use, not for everyday or sensitive information. i have no idea where to look honestly, but i guess its ok if i leave it status quo.

well, look in the fedora manual, on their site, on google.
at least you know what to look for, so now it should be more easy to find.

i'm sorry i can only do so mutch, but i do know that fedora core blocks root for remote gui. and with good reason. if however the machine is only accessable in your local area network, then it's safe to allow root.

but do keep in mind to use strong passwords, it is possible to get into a system on your local lan and in that way get to that system. but this does not happen that often.

(security is a really really strange thing)
