applying patches in gnome ??

i tried to install gnome-menu-editor on my RHEL WS 4.0, but i gave me some error, reading the README file i got to know i had to patch gnome, but i don't know how to do that, this is the exat thing in the README

This is a simple menu editor for GNOME in its early stages.

As of 2005-03-29, you'll have to apply the patches

against gnome-menus before being able to compile/use GNOME Menu Editor.

can anybody explain me how to do it!!
