Apply icc profile over VNC?

I am wondering whether it is possible to manage color over VNC. Inside a VNC client (server running TigerVNC), xcalib -d :1 <some file>.icc gives

Xlib: extension "XFree86-VidModeExtension" missing on display ":1"
Error - Unable to query gamma ramp size

Any other way to do this?

Unfortunately it is not possible to just apply the icc profile on the system outside of VNC. This particular use case is running GNU/Linux inside VNC on an Android tablet. GNU/Linux is running natively on the tablet (mounted by chroot), and the AndroidVNC app is displaying the graphical desktop. Of course on Android there is no way possible to load an icc file.
