appling patch to kismet


can anyone explain me how to apply a patch?
I want to upgrade my kismet because it doesn't seem to support my ipw2100...

when I make patch p0 < kismet-2004-10-R1.diff

it asks me which file to patch...

sorry, I am a linux newbie allthough I thought that I may have got allready some advanced skills learned....
