Applications shipped with SuSe

Am a real Newbie, but learning..

I saw a bunch of applications being loaded during install time. Also, SuSe advertisement states that several prime applications are included with the system ship. Where are they, how can I get to them? I assume that I can use RPM to install them once they are found..

Thanks in advance..>

To access a list of every package on the install CDs do the following. login as root. Put your first install CD in your CD-ROM. Start YaST2. Click on software. Click on software management. Click on filter. Choose package groups. Scroll down to the end of the packages list to where you will find zall. Click on zall and you wil get a list of every package on the install CDs. Highlight a package name and you will get a description of what the package is.

I did the above description from memory so I may have missed a click or two in the process.

" I assume that I can use RPM to install them once they are found.."

Yes, you can install them with rpm. However when you are looking at the YaST2 package list it is far easier to use YaST2 to install or remove packages (YaST2 calls rpm for you). I suggest that after each selection to install or remove a package that you click on Check Dependencies to decide what to do about the dependency changes caused by your latest selection/deselection. If you wait until you have finished all selections/deselections before checking dependencies you could have an incomprehensible list of questions to decide.

Steve,

Thank you kindly. I now see the long list and fetched a few and removed others.

Your explanation was quite close, so that made it easy.

Thanks,
Ken
