Applications requiring 'root' to launch....

I have two applications that will not start as a normal user, but when I launch them as user 'root', they work just fine.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

KDE's Konqueror will not start in Web-Browser profile, unless I launch it with 'root' permissions. It will launch in all other profiles as a normal user. The specific error (which seems to refer to write permissions) is......

'Could not create view for txt/html'

The other application that exhibits this behaviour is PySol. I cannot launch it as a normal user, but it works as user 'root'

Thanks for any suggestions.

You could try to locate the offending program's executables and chmod them to allow other users access.

Yes, try this:

chmod +x /path/to/kde/bin/konqueror

Actually, I thought the same thing....

...and, it may well be the problem in the end. But the permissions on the executable are 'rwxr-xr-x', and it launches fine in the other profiles.

The exact command is.....

'kfmclient openProfile webbrowsing'

When the command is....

'kfmclient openProfile filemanagement'

....it works fine.

However, I think you are on the right track, and I will look further at permissions. Thanks for the pointers.
