I´ m looking for an application that realizes screenshots. Something like polenta (unfortunatly only for Windows) that can make screenshots from only a part of the screen. I would like to use it to make some documentation and tutorials and I do not want to make systematicaly a screenshot of the all screen but only sometimes of a precise part of it.
When I have to do that, I usually make the screenshot, then edit it in the GIMP. Not an application, but it does allow you to get a precise area of the screen.
I use import to take my screenshots but that does whole screen. It can do windows but it's probably not the most user-friendly way to do it. If you take screenshots with GIMP you can select a window to take a screenie of, is that what you're after?
Under KDE there is something called ksnapshot that allows to make screenshots of a specific window (it even allows to remove the decorations, if you want to)

Well, I´d like something easier and more confortable. I use screenshots quite a lot and I do not want to make a piece of art out of each screenshot that I make! Delimitingthe picture with GIMP is just a bit too much time spending.

Yes, but I´d like to be able to make a picture of a specific area of this window.

I´m not sure whether I understand you correctly. Do u mean that it´s possibel to make a screenshot directly with GIMP? If yes, how? I use the 2.2 Version and I didn´t find anything about making screenshots.
This is really easy with gimp. I am not at linux right now, so this is from memory... (and if I can remember it, it has to be easy!).
Fire up gimp. Close all the extra windows, except the main gimp one.
File -> Acquire -> Screenshot
Choose Single window. Choose OK. Click on the window you want a shot of.
A screenshot opens.
Use the selection tool (A dotted rectangle) to select the part of the screenshot you are interested in. <CTRL>-c to copy the selection <CTRL>-n To create a new thing the same size as the clipboard. <CTRL>-v To copy your selection to the new image.
Perfect. Now save your image - right click on the new image, a menu appears.
File -> Save As....
Give it an appropriate extension. Save it. You are done.
Leave gimp running. Open the next window you want a shot of. Repeat from File -> Acquire -> Screenshot ad nauseam.
