Application / Script to test READ speed on a filesystem


I am wanting to find a way to accurately test the READ speed from a drive.

I have written a script that clocks the write time of files to the drive, but now I'm trying to determine the best way to get the READ time of the harddrives.

how fast the hard disk is

sudo hdparm -tT /dev/sda ( if it SATA, else hda )
