Application protection and shareware

My company is looking at porting some of our commercially available software to linux here in the next month or so. In that lies the problem that we have been using for years now, EXECryptor on our windows software to create the hack protection and also trialware software.

This being said I have just spent about an hour looking through google and cannot find a program like EXECryptor for linux. Something that will pack my application file into obfuscated code and also create trialware out of it.

Does anyone know of software like this for the linux platform?

Not me. I fancy more than one devious individual (e.g. Anonymous) might deal with the website of any such offering. Nevertheless, what you suggest is attempted. Encryption is available in library form on most boxes, but it is really an uphill struggle.

Consider, for example, there is the legal issue of the all pervasive GPL to be got around. People who make money from OSS software do it at the support services end. And IME most programs that sell for $300 for a pc and $1000 on a Mac will not sell for $300 on linux, or near it. Far better to structure around cheap/free software and support services (like Red Hat), or to provide a version that runs smoothly under wine.
