apple ipod wont mount using usb interface
 
ok i have gtkpod for linux and it comes up great..and when i plug in my ipod it gives the do not disconnect msg as normal but doesnt come up as mounted on linux and therefore i cannot update it :( if anyone has any ideas how to get it working would be soo grateful! i dont want to have to use my windows install.!

it sounds like ur not mounting it manually - sorry if im insulting ur intelligence by suggesting this:

mkdir /mnt/ipod
mount -t vfat /dev/sda2 (or sdb/c/whatever if u have other drives like this) /mnt/ipod

is how i do it.

yeah basically i need to start my computer with the ipod plugged in so that it recognises it on boot and reads it as a sda hdd...works not...many thanks...does need manual mounting!
