append '-1' to images dragged to desktop - firefox/gnome

I'm looking for a way to do this.

In firefox you can drag and drop images from web pages from your browser window to the desktop. The problem is if there is already a file on the desktop with the same name. I want to be able to append a -1, -2 to the file rather than having to rename the existing file and then do the drag-drop again. IE. if the file screenshot.jpg is already on the desktop and I drop another file on the desktop named screenshot.jpg, the new file will be renamed screenshot-1.jpg without me being hassled about it.

Safari on OS X does this seamlessly and I'm looking for a setting, extension or something for Gnome-firefox that will do this for me.

Very grateful for a solution!
