Exclamation App installed on its own without me knowing. Is my system compromised?

I have a HP 14s Laptop that is dual booted with Windows 10 and Zorin OS 15.2. My Firewall is enabled.

Everything was normal untill I found a very peculiar thing. Telegram, the messaging app, had got installed automatically. I am 100% sure that I didn't have any intention of installing it. It wasn't there since the beginning.
So when I tried to uninstall it, I just couldn't.
The app name didn't fall under the dpkg --list nor the Software Store showed "Installed" or "Remove" but just "Install", indicating that the app isn't installed. I don't think it's because of a bug.
I had to remove Telegram by restoring my system using Timeshift.

What could be the reason?

Was Telegram installed as a dependency of some other software?
Is this the telegram that you are referring to?
https://desktop.telegram.org/

Does telegram come with Zorin? Did you get it as a snap package?
No way of knowing without more info.

Telegram does not come with Zoom. Is the OP certain that Telegram is installed in Zorin, not in Windows? I could understand if it got installed in Windows, but not in Linux. Although since Zorin has wine installed by default, it could have been installed there somehow. Or perhaps someone else had access to the machine and installed it. Otherwise I have no clue.

too late now you restored your system

or is it still there ?
did you step in the Ubuntu ?
Where did the app install and is running from ?

$> which telegram
e.g. /usr/local/bin/telegram
or ~/.sneakyfeckingdir/telegram

what ownership, permissions does the app have ?
when was it installed ?

$> ls -l telegramdir/telegram
-rwxr-xr-x 1 red red 894 Jul 15 21:43 installed

now use your grey matter timeshift and remember back to when it was installed
what were you doing at the time ?
was it installed in the system or in your home directory ?
does it have permissions to screw with your system
or just grab your data and mess with your mind ?
did it steal money from you ?
Has this brought up "trust" issues with Canonical ?

It might have something to do with Zorin Connect which is an application that may be installed on Zorin 15. According to https://www.reallinuxuser.com/15-bes...g-zorin-os-15/ Zorin Connect can allow WhatsApp or Telegram messages coming in to be displayed in a pop-up on your Zorin Desktop. If you have tried "Zorin Connect" perhaps it has something to do with the Telegram software being installed. I've never used Zorin OS so I can't say how it works. It is based on GSConnect and KDE Connect.

I finally got to know the reason of Telegram appearing in my application list! It is beacuse of the Sync feature in Chrome where it downloads the web store apps to my Linux. Anyway, thanks to those to responded to my thread!
