app for quciktime streams?

i wante to know if they was an app that p;layed quicktime streams? i cant get anything that i already have installed to play them.

i like my movie/game trailers. i need them.

btw- none of my video players will work at all now, they just crash right after startup. sometimes w/ a "segmentation fault" error, sometimes w/ nothing at all. any ideas?

Here is a link to download "quicktime4linux-2.0.3". Good luck.

questionasker...i use both mplayer plugin and gxine to play quicktime streams. have you tried either of these? you also want to make sure that your video players are linked to your codec folder properly or they will crash.

questionasker 06-12-2004 09:53 PM

maybe thats my problem. how do i make sure theyre linked properly?

i thought it might have something to do w/ my using xorg now instead of xfree, but after re-installing xfree, i still get problems.

xine

Have you tried Xine? I use it all the time for quicktime movies as well as DVD, avi and wmv's
try the following link for RPM's:

http://packman.links2linux.de/?action=124

you will want to make sure you install the following:

libxine1-1_rc4a-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
libxine1-w32dll-1_rc4a-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
w32codec-0.91-0.pm.0.i386.rpm

With all those installed you should be able to watch .mov files, as for streaming, I believe it works but can not at the moment try it since I'm going through my works proxy which blocks streaming media, I'll try it when I get home and post my results.

If your looking for a good GUI for xine I'd recommend Kaffine if your using KDE if not just use the Gnome front end GUI:

libxine1-gnome-vfs-1_rc4a-0.pm.0.i686.rpm
http://packman.links2linux.de/?action=325 [Kaffine]

all these files are linked in the first address listed except Kaffine which I linked above in the second link.

Hope these help you out.

I've been using gxine with pretty good results. (with firefox)
Win32 codecs, QT6dlls, and Qt extras in /usr/lib/win32

imagreg 06-13-2004 09:17 AM

questionasker...if you have gxine installed click >file >preferences >codec this is where you can make sure that your codec package is linked correctly. for you i would imagine that your win32 is under /usr/lib/win32.

p.s. are you still using jamd? something must have gotten kind of screwed up as i tinkered with that distro for a little bit and i remember everything working with a fresh install. that was a very good distro. too bad its no longer.

questionasker 06-13-2004 01:05 PM

no, i just un-installed it about two days 4 days ago :(.
it sucks that it died, it was a real nice distro.
{edit: i guess i need to update my profile...}

yes ive tried xine, gxine, mplayer, kaffiene, etc...
ill have to check the codecs when i get back to my linux comp (right now im in windows [uggh]). maybe i can find something out.

thanks for all yalls input. ill let yall know when (yes when, cause i know i will) get it working.

questionasker 06-14-2004 12:36 AM
