app for connecting/disconnecting the internet

hi there!

i'm new here (and fairly new to linux) so i don't know if this has been asked before but i plan to install linux, MEPIS in particular, but i need to find an app that manages the internet conection like i have in windows, one that switches it on and off at certain times, for example.

is there any such program for linux?

I could do that with my Router (Linksys WRT54GL) running the dd-wrt firmware.

You can also di this with Squid and time based access control.

You could also just run a cron job on the ifconfig down/up.

first of, thanks for the replies!
but i don't know much (if at all) about linux configurations... is there some easy tutorials or something about how to do the things you said?

for instance i don't even know what ipconfig or squid are...

are they files that you can edit?

You could start by searching Google for the info we suggested, reading ht links we posted. then come back and ask about anything specific you have questions about or don't understand..
