Apache2 URL resolution issue

I am trying to configure an alias under apache2

Here is the status, to the best of my limited knowledge.

1.Working I can get the alias to work if i use the IP address of the server.
http://<ip-address>/alias/index.html
The access logs are updated with the request in this case.

2. Not working! I get the message 'Oops! This link appears to be broken' if I use http://<site-url>/alias/index.html
There is no 'write' to the access logs. (I guess this indicates that the request is not reaching apache at all?)

Any other information I need to provide?

So where do I start to fix this.
Look forward to some suggestions / inputs.

Thanks all

Hi and welcome to LQ,

I guess you have to create a VirtualHost with the name "site-url". Or if the vhost exists, it doesn't see your Alias directive.
Read your distro's documentation about configuring apache vhosts, or post here your distro and apache config file(s) so we can help you better on this

Regards

Thanks bathroy.

My bad. The problem was like this. This was a new server I had added for a site which was already active from another server using the virtual hosts directive. Part of the problem with being a part time system admin

The simple solution lay changing the A-Record to point to the correct server.
Apache was reliable and stable as usual.
Sorry about this.

thanks again.
