Apache2, AWStats, & Deflate

I have a question for any apache gurus out there. I was previously running Apache 1.3.28 with the mod_gzip installed. I had the httpd.conf file set to CustomLog log/access_log combined_gzip. Since upgrading to Apache 2.0.47 I havent been able to use mod_gzip. So I am stucking using deflate. The problem is, all my stat files are in a non-standard form combine_gzip. I have deflate configured in Apache2 but the problem is my log files are going to be different.

I am using AWStats to monitor the log files. I would like to enable compression and have my AWStats continue to work with the old log file format. I cant loose the information previous to the upgrade.

Here are some notes that might help somebody help me.

Software I have installed currently...
  • Apache 2.0.47
  • AWStats 5.9

Installation Notes

Apache 2.0.47
  • Configured with --enable-deflate
  • http.conf file edited to output CustomLog log/access_log combined
  • Note: Old httpd.conf file read CustomLog log/access_log combined_gzip
AWStats 5.9
  • Configured to read LogFormat = 1
  • Note: LogFormat 1 is equivalent to:
    %host %other %logname %time1 %methodurl %code %bytesd %refererquot %uaquot
Also equivalent to standard combined log format

Basically ever since the upgrade I am using twice the bandwidth becuase I dont have compression enabled right now. I would like to have some sort of compression enabled while maintaining my current log files and continue to be able to log from this point forward and have AWStats read it.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.
