apache starting problem in Reh Hat 9

My apatche server was up and running and working fine. Monday morning the service was stopped and I can't get it to restart. It gives me the following error:

httpd failed. The error was: Stopping httpd: [FAILED]

Starting httpd: (98)Address already in use: make_sock: could not bind to address
no listening sockets available, shutting down

I have tried every thing but nothing works. In the error_log file the following apears:

[Mon Nov 10 08:17:39 2003] [alert] (2)No such file or directory: getpwuid: couldn't determine user name from uid 4294967295, you probably need to modify the User directive
[Mon Nov 10 08:17:39 2003] [notice] Apache/2.0.40 (Red Hat Linux) configured -- resuming normal operations
[Mon Nov 10 08:17:39 2003] [alert] Child 4194 returned a Fatal error...!Apache is exiting!

Any help would be great
Thanks Duvan

Yes I did but it still doesn't work
If I change the Listen tag in httpd.conf to
the service restarts successfully but says apache is dead but pid file exist
if I change it back to *:80 the previous error occurs.
If I change the IP to my servers IP address it doesn't restart and says apache is dead and subsys locked

I also face the same problem. Then i just uninstall the httpd and reinstalled it, and after configuring it works.....

thats all b'coz the rpm for httpd is corrupted.
