apache question

hello. I have slack 10 installed.

using the apache that came with my slack disro, if I go to http://www.domain.com/~user

it automatically tries to redirect them to http://hostname.domain.com/~user/index.html

I have put a bandaid on it by make a new DNS entry with hostname.domain.com as a CNAME entry for my actual domain name, but how can I solve this?

Did you check your httpd.conf file for apache to see where it points too, cuase usually by default it goes to index.html

The actual answer to your question is to set "ServerName" in httpd.conf to whatever you're going to be accessing the box with.

Note: If you have VirtualHost's, adjust accordingly

You set ServerName to whatever the client browser is going to send in the Host: header (what the user types in the address bar), so most likely you'd want to use www.whatever.tld

There is a variable something like 'Use CanonicalName' in httpd.conf, if you set this to false/no then it will solve your problem
