Apache Problems

Hi,

PHP 4.4.0
Apache 2.0.54

Server version: Apache/2.0.54
Server built: Aug 4 2005 14:12:37
Server's Module Magic Number: 20020903:9
Architecture: 32-bit
Server compiled with....
-D APACHE_MPM_DIR="server/mpm/prefork"
-D APR_HAS_SENDFILE
-D APR_HAS_MMAP
-D APR_HAVE_IPV6 (IPv4-mapped addresses enabled)
-D APR_USE_SYSVSEM_SERIALIZE
-D APR_USE_PTHREAD_SERIALIZE
-D SINGLE_LISTEN_UNSERIALIZED_ACCEPT
-D APR_HAS_OTHER_CHILD
-D AP_HAVE_RELIABLE_PIPED_LOGS
-D HTTPD_ROOT="/etc/httpd"
-D SUEXEC_BIN="/usr/sbin/suexec"
-D DEFAULT_PIDLOG="/var/logs/httpd.pid"
-D DEFAULT_SCOREBOARD="logs/apache_runtime_status"
-D DEFAULT_LOCKFILE="/var/logs/accept.lock"
-D DEFAULT_ERRORLOG="logs/error_log"
-D AP_TYPES_CONFIG_FILE="conf/mime.types"
-D SERVER_CONFIG_FILE="conf/httpd.conf"

My error logs are full of these:

[Fri Aug 05 00:05:08 2005] [info] (32)Broken pipe: core_output_filter: writing data to the network

During the times when I get these errors httpd becomes totally unresponsive. It will then spring back into life 5-10 seconds later.

This is incredibly frustrating when I have 500 people online simulatenously on my website.

Anyone come across this before ? This is not someone hitting stop halfway through a page load, this is too consistent for that. Almost every minute or two my logs are filled with this and my httpd becomes unresponsive again.

Would downgrading to 1.x Apache help ? Up until the last 3-4 versions of Apache I never had this problem.

Please help!

Hi,

I don't mean to be rude but I wouldn't post this question if I hadn't already looked on Google.

No one seems to have the answer to my problem - hence my post here.

The nearest I have got is that some suggest its people closing their browser connections half way through a connection but that is not what is happening with my server.

They are too frequent, and I get too many apparant timeouts in my connections for absolutely no reason.

Can anyone help me pls ?
