Apache problems

I am fairly inexperienced with system administration under Linux, so I thought I would do a few experiments.

I installed Apache2, and can start the server. I can access webpages from the machine that runs the server with http://localhost, however, I cannot access it from my other machine.

I'm running RedHat 7.3. I have "Allow from all" in my httpd.conf under the appropriate directory.

Thanks in advance for any help. If I left out relevant information, I'd be happy to provide it to you if you ask.

Any error messages when trying to access from the other machine ? And what are the permission's on the files that you have for viewing ?? Are you trying to access via the host or computer name or maybe the IP address of the machine running Apache ??

When I try to access the server, the browser gives me a cannot find server error. I'm typing http://<ip here> into the browser on the other machine when I attempt this.

I don't think that it is caused by read permissions on files, since there isn't even a response from the server. I don't get any errors in my log files either, so it appears to me that the connection attempt isn't even being recognized.

Do you have some kind of firewall installed?
Which port does your apache server run on? 80?

Are you sure you dont have any iptable rules set?
iptables -L

If you have another linux box, try running nmap on the ip address of your web server.

I haven't altered any thing with iptables before. I installed RH 7.3 with the default server configuration. I'm not sure what it's default configurations are, however.

I did run iptables -L, and it gave me a few errors.

---
ip_tables.o: init_module: Device or resource busy

"Hint: insmod errors can be caused by incorrect module parameters, including invalid IO or IRQ parameters"

Then some other errors from insmod that I assume are caused by the failure to load ip_tables.o properly.

---

I don't have access to another linux box, but I ran a windows port scanner and it timed out on port 80.

It seems that this problem is not just limited to the webserver. I am not able to ssh in either.
