Apache permission troubles on Suse 9.3

I am not able to get my apache server webpage to come up.
When I bring up my web browser and type "localhost" in the address bar I get an "Access forbidden" message stating that
"You don't have permission to access the requested directory. There is either no index document or the directory is read-protected."
When I went to check if the "index.html" file was present in the "/var/www" directory (likened to the Mandrake distribution file system), I found that there was no /var/www directory and that the only www directory present was a "/srv/www" directory with no "index.html" file or any homepage .html file to speak of. Where is the "index.html" or equivalent file in the Suse 9.3 distribution? Incedently, I've tried go through the "YaST" program to set up my HTML server making sure HTTP services were enabled and that the listening port was 80.

not sure that this will help you get the web server up but the index.html file (and the other html pages) in suse are located in /srv/www/htdocs.

I looked and couldn't find any "index.html" file in "/srv/www/htdocs". I've searched through all the directories under "/srv/www" and found no "index" file. I tried creating my own "index" file, which was not recognized by the server. I'm missing something.
