Apache optimizing

Does anyone know a good apache optimizing guide? My site is fairly high traffic and tends to slow down during peak hours.

One bump heh, anyone?

Not sure of any sites but what's the server specs and average number of users accessing it at peak times? Type of network? What or how is your server configured now to handle connections, etc?

If you provide all of this, maybe someone here can give you tips in trying to optimize your server.

Regards.

trickykid is asking the necessary questions, especially about the network. How fast can you upload? I run apache on my home adsl connection to show my family web pages and the pages load up pretty slow for them because of poor upload speed.

I pull around 5.0mbit/s at times for my site, I have it hosted at an ISP in a major dataceenter.. I don't have any accurate stats on my users at this time, I would have to dig them up. Not sure exactly what you mean by "type of network"

I'm just looking for an apache conf optimizing guide of some form.

linux_pioneer 12-08-2003 02:25 PM

What type of connection is it? Is it adsl, cable, T1, ....?

Probably OC3 or above - bw is not an issue its on a backbone.

Are your hits for large files or small files?
Are you sending compressed data?
Are you using SSL? accelerator card?
Have you done any tcp tuning? keepalives? timeouts? window sizes?
Have you done any file system tuning? noatime? block sizes? symlinks?

It appears it may have been an oversized logfile causing the issue.. i already made some tweaks to the conf so I will see if this was the problem. Thanks guys :D
