Apache MaxClients

Ok I have an apache 1.3 server that's maxing out it's max clients in under 10 minutes every restart. This just happened yesterday, so I'm assuming there must be a worm, dos or something happening. Any suggestions on what to do to start troubleshooting and finding out the possible issue?

Can you post some of the messages in Apache's access and error logs please?

There wasn't anything of any use in the logs really. Just saying that it had reached max clients. I seem to have it reseolved for the time being. I went through some basic security steps on the web server, and making apache run as apache instead of nobody seemed to do the trick with it. Doesn't seem like that should be enough, but I guess it's just wait and see time. It's ran for about 15 hours or so like this without problem.
