Apache httpd start failed on fedora core 1
I am trying to get the webserver going on my development computer so I can work on the new Beta I am doing for my companies website. I go to the services window and set it to start httpd, I then restart my computer and lo and behold, absolutly nothing happens. I go back into services and attempt to start it, and it says, "Starting httpd: failed"
Next i try running httpd from the init.d folder and it gives me the same thing. No matter how hard I try, it won't start, or even give me a meaningful error message. I am running Fedora Core 1. Thanks in advance. |
Have you checked your logs at all? What about trying a apachectl configtest to test your httpd.conf file? What version of apache? What error do you get when attempting to run from the command line and what command are you using to start it?

can you copy the relvant lines of error.log you will find this file in /var/log/ or if you install apache from source then in apache2/logs/ directory

I have the same problem after installing FC3. It was installed in the same computer and running. I clean reinstalled it again.
apachectl configtest: syntax OK. All ways to start httpd:all answers were the same cold "httpd startup failed". |
Is there anything in the log file /var/log/messages anything in apache's error log.
If the configuration syntax is ok, check permissions and aaccess controls on configuration file, log files and document root. If you have selinux enabled on this machine check that you files have the correct selinux context or temporarily disable it and try to start the webserver. I have also seen apache fail to start if you have specified a log file location that does not exist, so check your syntax against your filesystem structure. Any error messages you think are relevant, please post here so people can assist you. |
What if you try to restart it? Does that work?
I'm just thinking that it's already running so that's why the start is failing. Try to check whether it's running or not: Code:
/etc/init.d/apache2 status (or where your apache is located) |
I've just installed all available updates for fedora3, including httpd
Reboot: all services green started, httpd red failed. SELINUX=disabled apachectl configtest -> Syntax OK Apache 2 /var/log/messages displays three lines: ntpd[3215]: synchronized to LOCAL(0), stratum 10 ntpd[3215]: synchronized to LOCAL(0), kernel time sync disabled 0041 httpd: httpd startup failed ps aux| grep httpd root 4376 0.0 0.1 3728 680 pts/1 S+ Thanks for your help |
I did not browse /etc/httpd/conf/error-log
Log dir was not created. |

can you post your config file
|
Sorry if I was not clear.
I solve the problem. /etc/httpd/conf/error-log informed that a log directory was not found, so I created it. Thanks. |
