Apache: httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name..

Hi,

I keep getting the same message upon trying to start Apache:

httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName

While this is annoying, I noticed it began happening after I attempted to rename the computer from "localhost". I tried going back to edit those files to fix what I did, but I couldn't remember what I changed, and shame on me, didn't back them up in the first place.

In addition, sendmail takes 2-3 minutes to start (by itself, nevermind the rest of startup) after I changed these. I don't know how to fix it, either by changing Apache or changing back my original network files.

Thanks!

Of course, since you changed the name of your server, both Apache and Sendmail are having issues resolving the new name. Please alter the following files:

/etc/hosts
/etc/sysconfig/network (You will see "HOSTNAME")

(Redhat)

Apache will compare the hostname with the "ServerName" option in your httpd.conf file. If the hostname and ServerName differ, you will receive the "httpd: Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using 127.0.0.1 for ServerName" message.
